“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.” – T S Eliot
Over the last eight years we have developed and refined methods to investigate, document and develop remote field sites for the purpose of research and pedagogy.
In the next leg of our work, EARTH CoLab will experiment with ‘translocality’ – applying our unique framework to semi-structured expeditions across multiple new locations.
OUR PROCESS

WHY
We could allow ourselves to be consumed by modern day living or we could choose instead to evolve. A little understanding grants us, as individuals and as a species, the knowledge to make informed decisions about who we are, where we want to be and how we want to live.
While the world may now be more accessible than ever before, and it may seem like there is nothing left to explore, we have yet to scratch the surface!
This exercise is intended to survey, understand and document new and remote locations that Earth Colab will then use as outdoor classrooms, studios and laboratories.
HOW
Our expeditions are planned for teams of 6 to 10 individuals, each with a distinct area of field expertise and cross-disciplinary experience. This team consists of specialists & practitioners in biology, photography, film, geography, ecology, contemporary art, wild food, ethno-botany, woodcraft, policy, governance, pedagogy and most importantly regional resource people and stakeholders.
Over a period of two weeks this team works to uncover the hidden layers of knowledge, information, interpretations, connections, stories and lessons from the habitats and niches at every new field-site.
